Home Team Science and Technology Agency 2025: The Future of Tech in the Hands of the Homeland
The Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore. It is responsible for developing and deploying science and technology solutions to enhance the operational capabilities of the Home Team, which comprises the Singapore Police Force, the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, the Central Narcotics Bureau, and the Singapore Prison Service.
In recent years, HTX has been at the forefront of innovation, developing cutting-edge technologies that have transformed the way the Home Team operates. These technologies have helped to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and safety across all aspects of the Home Team’s work.
“HTX plays a critical role in ensuring that the Home Team remains at the cutting edge of technology and innovation,” said Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, Mr. K. Shanmugam. “The agency’s work helps to keep our communities safe and secure.”
HTX’s work is focused on four key initiatives:
1. Developing and deploying new technologies to enhance the operational capabilities of the Home Team. This includes developing new technologies to improve crime prevention, detection, and investigation; enhance public safety; and strengthen border security.
2. Fostering innovation and collaboration within the Home Team and with external partners. HTX works closely with the Home Team agencies, as well as with academia, industry, and international partners, to develop and deploy new technologies.
3. Building a strong science and technology workforce. HTX invests in training and development programs to build a strong science and technology workforce for the Home Team.
4. Promoting public awareness of science and technology in the Home Team. HTX works to raise awareness of the importance of science and technology in the Home Team, and to encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology.
HTX has a track record of success in developing and deploying new technologies that have transformed the way the Home Team operates. Some of the agency’s most notable accomplishments include:
- Development of the Integrated Electronic Advance Passenger Information System (eAPIS), which allows the Home Team to screen passengers arriving in Singapore for potential threats.
- Deployment of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which allows the Home Team to quickly and accurately identify criminals.
- Development of the National Emergency Response System (NERS), which provides a common operating picture for all Home Team agencies during emergencies.
- Establishment of the HTX Innovation Lab, which provides a space for Home Team officers to collaborate with researchers and industry partners on new technologies.
- Launch of the HTX TechXchange, an annual event that brings together the Home Team, academia, industry, and international partners to share knowledge and best practices in science and technology.
“HTX has made significant contributions to the safety and security of Singapore,” said Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hoong Wee Teck. “The agency’s work has helped us to improve our crime prevention, detection, and investigation capabilities, and to enhance public safety.”
HTX is committed to continuing to develop and deploy new technologies to enhance the operational capabilities of the Home Team. The agency’s future plans include:
- Developing new technologies to address emerging threats, such as cybercrime and terrorism.
- Fostering innovation and collaboration within the Home Team and with external partners, to develop and deploy new technologies that meet the evolving needs of the Home Team.
- Building a strong science and technology workforce, to ensure that the Home Team has the skills and expertise to operate and maintain the latest technologies.
- Promoting public awareness of science and technology in the Home Team, to encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology, and to raise awareness of the importance of science and technology in keeping Singapore safe and secure.
“HTX is well-positioned to continue to play a vital role in ensuring that the Home Team remains at the cutting edge of technology and innovation,” said HTX Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tan Kian Heong. “We are committed to working with our partners to develop and deploy new technologies that will help to keep Singapore safe and secure.”
By 2025, HTX aims to be a world-leading science and technology agency for the Home Team. The agency’s goal is to develop and deploy new technologies that will transform the way the Home Team operates, and to ensure that Singapore remains a safe and secure place to live and work.
HTX’s 2025 vision is built on three pillars:
1. Innovation – HTX will continue to be at the forefront of innovation, developing new technologies that will help the Home Team to address emerging threats and challenges.
2. Collaboration – HTX will continue to foster innovation and collaboration within the Home Team and with external partners, to develop and deploy new technologies that meet the evolving needs of the Home Team.
3. Workforce Development – HTX will continue to invest in training and development programs to build a strong science and technology workforce for the Home Team.
“HTX is committed to ensuring that the Home Team has the best possible science and technology capabilities to keep Singapore safe and secure,” said Mr. Tan. “We are confident that by 2025, HTX will be a world-leading science and technology agency for the Home Team.”
