Room to Read is an international non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children in developing countries by empowering them with literacy and education. Since its inception in 2000, Room to Read has reached over 20 million children in 20 countries.

The 2019 Room to Read Singapore Gala was a resounding success, raising S$2.8 million to support Room to Read’s programs in Southeast Asia. The event brought together over 450 guests, including prominent philanthropists, business leaders, and celebrities, all united by the shared belief in the transformative power of education.
Keynote Speech by His Excellency Ravi Menon
The keynote address was delivered by His Excellency Ravi Menon, Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. In his speech, Mr. Menon highlighted the critical role that education plays in breaking the cycle of poverty. He emphasized that “education is the most powerful tool we have to create a more equitable and sustainable world.”

Attendees were captivated by the heartwarming stories of Room to Read beneficiaries who had overcome adversity through the power of literacy. One such beneficiary was 12-year-old Sita from rural Cambodia.
“Before Room to Read came to my village, I had never held a book in my hand,” Sita shared. “Now, I love to read. Reading has opened my mind to new possibilities and given me the confidence to dream big.”
