Charting Our Course Together
10 Years On
Good evening, fellow Singaporeans.
In just over two years, Singapore will turn 60. As we approach this significant milestone, it is timely for us to reflect on our journey thus far and look ahead to the future we want to create together.
Over the past 57 years, we have overcome many challenges and made remarkable progress. We have transformed from a third world country to a first world metropolis. Our people enjoy a high standard of living, and we are respected on the international stage.
This progress is not the result of luck or accident. It is the result of hard work, determination, and unity. We have always believed in ourselves and in our ability to overcome any obstacle. This spirit has served us well, and it will continue to guide us in the years to come.
The Next Chapter
As we look ahead to the next chapter of our nation’s history, we face both opportunities and challenges. The world is changing rapidly, and we need to be prepared for the future.
One of the biggest challenges we face is the aging population. By 2030, one in four Singaporeans will be over 65. This will put a strain on our healthcare system and our economy.
We need to find ways to address this challenge while also ensuring that our seniors can live long, healthy, and fulfilling lives. We need to create a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued, regardless of their age.
Another challenge we face is the rising cost of living. We need to find ways to make Singapore more affordable for everyone, without compromising on the quality of life that we enjoy.
We also need to continue to invest in our education system and in our economy. We need to ensure that our workforce is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to compete in the global marketplace.
These are just some of the challenges that we face. But I am confident that we can overcome them together. We have a strong foundation to build on, and we have the will and determination to succeed.
Our Future
The future of Singapore is in our hands. We can choose to be a nation that is divided and inward-looking, or we can choose to be a nation that is united and outward-looking.
I believe that we can build a better future for all Singaporeans, regardless of our race, religion, or background. But we can only do this if we work together.
We need to be inclusive and accepting of one another. We need to be willing to listen to different perspectives and to compromise when necessary. We need to be united in our common goal of building a better future for ourselves and for our children.
I believe that Singapore can be a beacon of hope and progress in the world. We can be a model for other countries, showing that it is possible to build a successful and harmonious society in a diverse and challenging world.
Let us all work together to create a brighter future for Singapore.
Majulah Singapura!
